2K automobile paint is the current standard

Automobile paint is broadly classified as either 1k or 2k paint. 1k refers to one component of automotive paint, while 2k refers to two-component automotive paint. The development of the 2k paint has almost made the 1k paint obsolete. 2k or two-component automotive paint requires catalysts or hardeners to dry. The presence of these hardeners gives the 2K paint coating an inert property and makes them strongly resistant to chemicals, weather elements, UV rays, etc. 

Painting a car with 2k automobile paint is very technical and requires an experienced and skilled painting professional. One of the reasons is that 2k automotive paints contain isocyanate that poses a health hazard to humans during the painting process. Therefore, safety equipment has also become a part of the modern automotive paint supply industry. Isocyanates are used in most water-based paints, base coats and lacquers. Therefore, protective safety goggles, breathing apparatus, sturdy face shields, form-fitting protective gloves, thick coveralls, steel-toe boots etc., have also become a part of the automotive paint supply industry. Mechanical equipment like rotary polishing machines, magnetic spray guns etc., has also made its way into the standard equipment required for automotive painting.
